UNESCO: Global Survey on Women Scientists in Crisis and Emergency Contexts

UNESCO: Global Survey on Women Scientists in Crisis and Emergency Contexts – Call for Participation

UNESCO, in collaboration with Data-Pop Alliance, has launched a global survey on the experiences, contributions and challenges of women scientists in crisis and emergency contexts.

Women scientists play a vital role in responding to crises and emergencies, demonstrating leadership and contributing to scientific innovation. However, these situations can also deepen existing inequalities, disrupting scientific careers, limiting access to research opportunities and excluding women from decision-making processes.

The survey aims to gather evidence on the roles, contributions and challenges of women scientists in these contexts, including armed conflicts, natural disasters, health emergencies and other situations of instability.

The findings will contribute to a report presenting good practices and evidence-based recommendations to better support women scientists and promote more inclusive and resilient scientific systems.

Who can participate?

UNESCO invites both individual scientists (women and men) and representatives of scientific organisations and institutions to take part in the survey.

The surveys are available in all six official United Nations languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

All responses are anonymous and will be handled securely in accordance with UNESCO’s privacy policy.

Deadline for participation: 22 November 2026.

UNESCO encourages the scientific community to participate and share the surveys through professional networks and organisations, helping to ensure that a wide range of experiences and perspectives is represented.
