Regional symposium in Rabat: Open Science, Democratising science

Regional symposium on 28 and 29 November 2024 in Rabat, Morocco
Open Science, Democratising science

An initiative of the World Federation of Scientific Workers (WFSW) in partnership with UNESCO

The World Federation of Scientific Workers (WFSW) is co-organising with the Mohammed V University in Rabat, and a number of decision-makers and stakeholders in science research and development, a regional symposium, ‘Democratising Science’, dedicated to discussing the ‘Implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation in the Arab Region’.

Aware of the importance of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science as a tool to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to strengthen Science, Technology and Innovation, and to address the shortcomings of the tools and processes dedicated to scientific research and the circulation and use of its results in the Arab Region, the WFSW invites stakeholders to a dedicated Regional Symposium.

It will discuss the pathways of Open Science and the appropriate measures to benefit from scientific advances in order to bridge the digital and technological divides between Arab countries and other countries around the world.

The symposium will also present the tools and processes devoted to research, scientific publishing, and the circulation and use of its results in the Arab region. In addition, participants will be invited to hold dialogues on the benefits and challenges associated with Open Science, infrastructures, funding mechanisms and specific legislation for its implementation.
